RESEARCH THEMES & PROJECTS

INVASION DYNAMICS OF NON-NATIVE INSECTS

Our lab studies the ecological impacts of non-native forest insects, their interaction with other disturbances, and efficacy of various management techniques.

CHEMICAL ECOLOGY OF FOREST INSECTS

We study multi-trophic insect responses to tree volatlies and insect pheromones in coniferous forest ecosystems.

ABIOTIC DISTURBANCES AND FOREST INSECTS

Forest insects are critical disturbances, and we focus on their community-level interactions with many other abiotic and biotic disturbances.

- Extent and severity of white pine dieback in the eastern U.S.

- Early detection and monitoring of exotic bark and woodboring beetles.

- Ecological impacts of emerald ash borer in eastern U.S.

- Chemical ecology of southern pine beetle and Ips species in southern pine forests.

- Responses of turpentine beetles and Sirex spp. to host volatiles.

- Interactions between pine health issues and insect and diseases in southeastern U.S.

- Pollinator ecology under forest management techniques.

- Use of remnant habitats in harvested areas as reserviors of biodiversity.
